The maintenance of interceptors includes the removal of sand, silt, and other debris from the bottom compartments and inspection and replacement (when necessary) of the absorbent pillows. Frequency of maintenance is relative to the number and intensity of storms since the last cleaning. Maintenance is critical to prevent new storms flushing material out of the interceptor and causing oil filters to lose their efficiency.
